Struthers - Joyce E. Kennedy, 77, died Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at the Hospice House after a short battle with breast cancer.
Joyce was born November 23, 1937 in Youngstown, a daughter of Earl Burke and Gladys Burke Townsend.
Joyce first worked as a waitress for Castle Restaurant in Youngstown and then for Republic Steel/LTV for many years as a pipe roller, until the plants closing.
She was a member of Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Struthers. In her free time, Joyce enjoyed reading, doing word searches, and especially spending time with her family. Joyce will always be remembered for her big heart and always taking care of others.
Her husband, Leigh R. Kennedy, preceded her in death on January 3, 1990. She is survived by her five daughters, Patricia (James Bart) Corbett of Struthers, Suzanne (David) White of Austintown, Mary Kay (Tom) Hirt of North Lima, Kathleen (John) Socha of Struthers, and Barbara (Victor) Uhas of Columbus; sister, Sue (Keith) Zahron of Uniontown, PA; 17 grandchildren, including two granddaughters who she raised, Jennifer (Mike) Stanton of Struthers with whom Joyce resided with, and Christine (Richard) Kosa of Struthers; 32 great-grandchildren and two on the way.
In addition to her parents and husband, Joyce was preceded in death three brothers, Ronald and William Burke, and Dennis Townsend; and grandson, Leigh Michael "Mikey" Mansky.
A funeral service will be held Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, 11 Spring St., Struthers.
Family and friends will be received Sunday from 3-3:45 p.m. at the funeral home, prior to the service.
The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Capital Campaign for the Elevator Fund at St. Nicholas Church, 764 Fifth St., Struthers, OH 44471 or to the Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Rd., Poland, OH 44514.
