Joyce I. Kasmer, 86, passed away on Thursday morning, October 6, 2016 at Hospice of the Valley's Hospice House, surrounded by her family.
Joyce was born February 18, 1930 in Youngstown, a daughter of Egnard and Lillian Gustafson Johnson.
Raised in Youngstown, she was a 1948 graduate of South High School. Shortly after graduation, Joyce met her future husband of 68 years, Robert E. Kasmer, at an Idora Park Dance and they were married on June 4, 1948. The couple made their home in Boardman, where they raised their four children.
Joyce was a dedicated homemaker and took great pride in her role as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved decorating her home and creating an inviting atmosphere for hosting family and friends. After retirement, Joyce and Bob enjoyed going south for the winters to Lido Beach, Florida for 25 years. More recently, Joyce loved tending to her flowers, music, and bird watching.
She was a member of Evangel Baptist Church and the former Vasa Lodge.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Bob, of Boardman; four children, Robert Kasmer, Jr. of Youngstown, Gretchen VanCure of Brecksville, David (Susan) Kasmer of Atlanta, GA, and Doug (Diane) Kasmer of Ocala, FL; a sister, June Sarver of East Liverpool; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy and Herbie Johnson; and son-in-law, Benjamin VanCure.
Family and friends will be received on Sunday from 3-5 p.m. and Monday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., Boardman.
A funeral service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by interment at Lake Park Cemetery. A reception and luncheon will follow at the Becker Family Center in Boardman.
Although flowers are beautiful, the family suggests that any memorial tributes take the form of contributions in Joyce's name to All Caring Hospice, 6715 Tippecanoe Rd., Suite B-101, Canfield, Ohio 44406.
