Joy May Foulke Vernarsky

North Port, AL- Joy May Foulke Vernarsky, age 94, of Fremont, Ohio passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2015 in Northport, Alabama. Services will be held at 9:30 am on Monday, Dec. 28 at Lake Park Cemetery Chapel, 1459 E. Midlothian Blvd in Youngstown, Ohio, with visitation starting at 9 am.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years Michael Richard Vernarsky; mother Lida May Williams Foulke; father Charles Spencer Foulke; brothers Charles Richard Foulke, William Harvey Foulke, Charles Spencer Foulke II, and Thomas Martin Foulke; sisters Gladys Pearl Foulke, Elizabeth Belle Finnie, Roe Ella McEaneney, Martha Leticia Miller, Margaret Louise Snow, and Iva June Yuhas; and three foster sisters Helena Harig, Della Realty, and Lena Rossler.
Survivors include her three children, Michele Ann Durkin, Michael John Vernarsky, and Lisa Marie Vernarsky; two grandchildren Alexis Margaret Zeller Clark (Phillip) and Taylor Jon Vernarsky; three great-grandchildren Charlotte May Clark, Callie Sue Clark, and Chase Phillip Clark; two sisters Alma Jean Reedy and Donna Lou Salyard; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Joy was born in Youngstown, Ohio, and worked a variety of jobs throughout her career including welder, fork lift operator, florist, and housekeeper. She also worked at the Salvation Army, Islay's and Lasalle's before retiring from Woolworth's in Fremont, Ohio. Joy was an avid card player and she especially enjoyed playing bridge and pinochle with her neighbors. She also enjoyed genealogy and spent endless hours maintaining the family history. On the weekends, you could always find her watching the NASCAR races and rooting for her favorite driver, Jeff Gordon. Joy also was dedicated to advocating for the mentally ill, serving on various local and state committees and actively participating with NAMI.
Davidson-Becker Funeral Home (Struthers, Ohio) is handling the funeral arrangements. The family suggests all gifts take the form of donations to the Salvation Army or the charity of your choice.
