Joseph Shagrin, 71 Delray Beach, Florida- Joseph Shagrin, a native of Youngstown passed away suddenly Friday April 8 in Delray Beach, Florida. He was born July 21, 1933 to Joseph E. and Martha Schoen Shagrin. He married Norma (Yecies) on June 19, 1955. Mr. Shagrin made his home in Youngstown the majority of his life, relocating permanently to Florida in 2002. Mr. Shagrin was a member of the 1951 graduating class of the Rayen School. He attended Indiana University and received his bachelor degree from Youngstown State University in 1956. Upon graduation, he worked in the family business, the original Foster Theatre on Glenwood Avenue, âa�A"back in the good old daysâa�A�. After he sold the theatre he was a partner in Karlâa�a��s Beauty Supply and the Youngstown School of Cosmetology. In 1966, Mr. Shagrin joined Merrill Lynch as an investment broker before opening the Youngstown office of Fulton, Reid & Staples. When the regional investment house was acquired by PaineWebber, Mr. Shagrin attained the position of Senior Vice President and Branch Manager. While at Paine Webber, he was named to both, the Presidentâa�a��s and Chairmanâa�a��s Club, and in 1989 was honored as broker of the year. He was later instrumental in establishing a Youngstown office for Shearson Lehman/Smith Barney where he continued to serve his clients until shortly before his retirement 2002. Mr. Shagrin was an active community leader. He was a Life Member and former member of the Board of Congregation Rodef Sholom, served on the board of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation, and was member of the Board of Directors of Western Reserve Bank (now Sky Bank). He also served on the Board of Directors of Squaw Creek Country Club, where he was a member and played golf on a regular basis. Most recently, he was a member and past regional president of Tasters Guild International, a position which enabled him to pursue his love of wine and build an extensive personal wine cellar. His dedication to service was exemplified by his membership in the Girard-Liberty Rotary Club, where he served in a variety of capacities, including president from 1969-1970. He was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow and boasted 45 years of perfect attendance, many in distant locations throughout the world. His hobbies included collecting art and movie memorabilia. He was a lifelong Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns fan and was also an accomplished bowler in his early years. He spent many healthy years traveling across the globe, enjoyed researching the Shagrin family genealogy and an avid philatelist and numismatist. Mr. Shagrin was a devoted husband, dedicated father and adoring grandfather. He leaves loving memories of a well-lived life with his wife Norma; a son Steven (Karen) Shagrin of Liberty Township, daughters, Jodie (Craig) Kavensky of Rock Island, Illinois, Kim (Mark) Buckley of Liberty Township; a sister, Lana Shagrin Oyer of Sun Lakes, Arizona; grandchildren, Jennifer Shagrin of Studio City, California, Allison Shagrin, Joel and Adrienne Buckley of Liberty and Elisse and Mia Rose Kavensky of Rock Island. Services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at Congregation Rodef Sholom with calling hours one hour prior to the service.
