Joseph C. Mavar, 80 Poland- Joseph C. Mavar, 80, died Friday afternoon at his residence. Mr. Mavar was born July 15, 1924 in Struthers, a son of James and Mary Yarnevich Mavracich. He was a lifelong area resident. A 1942 graduate of The Rayen School, Mr. Mavar was a sales manager, for the Carnation Company. His territory included five states. Mr. Mavar was a charter member and usher of Holy Family Church in Poland. He was an avid golfer, bowler, a guitarist and enjoyed boating, hunting and fishing. He was also a great chef. An Army veteran during World War II, Mr. Mavar was with the 82nd Airborne Division serving in the European Theater (1st Battalion 517th Parachute Infantry Regiment). He was a member of the Poland American Legion Post 888 and the Knights of Columbus Post 4471, Poland Council, where he was a Fourth Degree Knight. He leaves his wife, the former Anne J. Pipic whom he married June 22, 1946; four sisters, Ann (Vince) Bruner of Hubbard, Katherine (Jim) Bryer of Pulaski, PA, Helen Verina of Girard and Margaret Marghella of Uniontown, PA; and two brothers Michael (Arlene) Mavracick of Boardman and John (Helene) Mavar of Canfield. He has many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, a sister, Mary Ann Tkach; and two brothers, George Mavracich and Jim Mavar preceded him in death. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, 10:00 AM at Holy Family Church, Poland. There are no calling hours prior to the services. Arrangements are being handled by Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Church, 2729 Center Road, Poland, OH 44514.
