Joseph Kovach, 87 Poland âa�" Joseph Kovach, 87, of 2025 Wolosyn Court died Christmas evening in St. Elizabeth Health Center. He was born May 29, 1918 in Athens County, Ohio a son of Andrew and Mary Molnar Kovach and came to Poland in 1928. He was a mason foreman at the Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company, retiring in 1984 after 44 years. Mr. Kovach was a veteran of WW II, serving in the 82nd Airborne Division. He fought with the 82nd in the battles of North Africa and Europe. He had combat parachute jumps in Sicily, Normandy and Holland. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was in the assault crossing of the Elbe River resulting in the capture of 150,000 German troops to close out the 82nds participation in the war. He was a member of Holy Family Roman Catholic church in Poland, the 82nd Airborne Association and the VFW. His wife, the former Virginia Gayetsky, whom he married October 13, 1945 died May 11, 2003. He leaves two sons, Michael (Denise) Kovach of Columbus and William (Peggy) Kovach of Houston, Texas; a sister, Margaret Kovach of Boardman; five grandchildren, Matthew, Amy, Brad, Todd and Megan. Two sisters, Marian Kovach and Elizabeth Noto and three brothers, Frank, Louis and Edward Kovach are deceased. Funeral Services will be conducted by Father Christopher Luoni at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland at 11:00 AM Thursday at where visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 PM.
