Lowellville - Joseph Hauser, 87, of Lowellville, died Wednesday morning at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Boardman.
Mr. Hauser, affectionately known as Joe, was born December 13, 1923 in Detroit, MI, a son of Valentine and Alice Fitzpatrick Hauser. He was raised in Detroit and moved to Union Lake, with his first wife, Betty Jean, to raise their family. In 1972 he moved to Canfield and then to Lowellville in 1983.
Joe was a 1942 graduate of St. Marys Redford High School where he was a kicker for the high school football team and was nick named "Joe the Toe". After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Joe enlisted in the United States Navy and served for four years on a DEI 175 Penwell Destroyer Escort.
Upon returning from the war, Joe attended Lawrence Tech School for Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. He was an engineer for Ditzler Paint in Detroit Michigan and later for Pittsburgh Plate Glass. In 1972 he transferred to Canfield to work for United Service Company in Youngstown.
Joe was a former member of St. Michaels Catholic Church in Canfield and a member of Holy Rosary Church in Lowellville. An avid golfer, Joe belonged to the Senior Citizens Golf League of Mill Creek Park. Joe's other interests included gardening, carpentry, and following his favorite football team, The Univeristy of Michigan Wolverines "GO BLUE".
Joe most enjoyed spending quality time with his family. He leaves his wife, the former Marilyn Scavelli Fanto, whom he married May 7, 1983; three daughters, Linda (Michael) Dequin of Wixom, MI, Christine (Alan) McDonald of Berlin Center, and Gail (John) Tolson of Salem; one son, Joseph (Jayne) Hauser of Milford, MI; daughter-in-law, Lori Hauser of Brighton, MI; one step-daughter, Patty (Charlie) Watkins of Pasadena, TX; one sister, Pat Marshall of Lansing, MI; 12 grandchildren, Jesse, Nicole, Paul, Jonathan, Jeffrey, Jami, Paul, Johnny, Jessica, Alex, Jessica, and Nichole; and 3 great-grandchildren, Christopher, Adin, and Bradley.
Besides his parents, Joe was was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Betty Jean Meier; one son, Lawrence Hauser; two daughters, Catherine Moore and Gwynn Grist; two brothers, David and Robert Hauser; and his granddaughter Tami Tolson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, 10:00 AM at Holy Rosary Church with Fr.Nicholas Shori officiating. Interment will follow at the Holy Rosary Cemetery in Lowellville.
Friends will be received Friday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home Lowellville, where a prayer service will be held Saturday at 9:30 AM.
