A Memorial service will be held Saturday, 11:00 a.m. at Davis-Becker Funeral Home for Joseph J. and Dorothy A. Courtney, formerly of Boardman. Joseph passed away Dec. 2, 2013 at Shepherd of the Valley Boardman and Dorothy passed away Dec. 7, 2013 at Hospice House.

Mr. Courtney was born August 7, 1927 in Youngstown, a son of Albert and Marguerite Quinlan Courtney. He attended Youngstown State University and was the owner of Canfield Manufacturing Company.

Joe is a veteran of the US Coast Guard and the US Army, which he served in during the Korean Conflict.

He is a member of Boardman Boosters and an inductee to their Hall of Fame, the Youngstown Power Squadron, the Elks Club, and Argus Lodge # 545 F&AM, and the Youngstown Shrine Club.

Mrs. Courtney was born March 25, 1926 in Boardman, a daughter of F. Allen and Margaret Lytle Hoover. She had attended Kent State University and had worked for the Boardman High School Athletic Dept. for 21 years.

The Courtney's have been members of Pleasant Grove Church for over 50 years, the Saxon Club, Mannechor Club, and the Salem Hills Golf Club.

The Courtney's celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on November 24 of this year.

Surviving them is their daughter and son in law Mary Jo and Steve Wilkins of Fenton, MO. And two grandchildren Jeffrey (Fiancé Michelle Jackson) Wilkins, and Abby (Phil) Perkins.

Preceding Joe in death besides his parents are three brothers, Ray, Don and Robert Courtney. Preceding Dorothy in death are four sisters, Ginny Hoover, Margaret Edwards, Harriet Slagle, and Kathryn Thompson and a brother Bud Hoover.

Friends may call one hour prior (10:00am-11:00 am) to the service at the funeral home.

The family requests material tributes take the form of contributions to the Angels for Animals, 4750 W. South Range Rd., Canfield, OH 44406.
