Boardman - Joseph Capan, 88, of Boardman, formerly of Sigle Lane in Poland, died Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at the Greenbriar. Mr. Capan was born October 26, 1919 in Carbon, Pa, a son of John and Catherine Schulac Capan. He attended Bessemer High School and worked as a foreman for William B. Pollack, retiring in 1979 after 32 years. Mr. Capan was a United States WWII Army Veteran. He was a life-long member of the VFW and the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Struthers. His wife the former, Helen Smrek, whom he married August 19, 1944, died March 4, 2002. Mr. Capan leaves two sisters, Mary (Nick) Noviello of Struthers and Rose Grimm of Poland; two brothers, Pete (Mary Jane) Capan of Lowellville and Mike (Millie) Capan of Bessemer. Besides his parents and wife, Mr. Capan was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Steve, and Frank Capan; and two sisters, Caroline Cicuto and Ann Lingle. Private funeral services were held today at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland with Fr. William Petrunak officiating. Interment will follow in the St. John Cemetery, Lowellville.
