Joseph Vern Boone, 82 New Middletown-Joseph Vern Boone, 82, of 9785 Struthers Rd. died Sunday afternoon at his residence after an extended illness. He was born in East Liverpool July 13, 1921. He was the second son of the late Otis and Helen Holmes Boone and was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Boone and Raymond W. Boone; and two sisters, Bernice Todd and Betty Scott. Mr. Boone was Junior High School principal in the Poland school system from 1961-1979. Prior to moving to Poland, he was a teacher and coach at Salem, Ohio Junior High School from 1949-1961. Mr. Boone was an elder in the Poland Presbyterian Church and a member of the Poland Lodge F&AM 766. He belonged to the local, state, and the national professional education organizations. He was a World War II veteran and 1st Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps as a B24 bomber pilot stationed in Italy. He was a 1940 graduate of Canton McKinley High School. He had an athletic scholarship to attend Alfian College in Michigan prior to World War II. He graduated from Slippery Rock University with a BS Degree in Education in 1949, and later graduated from Kent State University in 1960 with a Maters Degree in Secondary School Administration. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Helen Hobbs Boone, one daughter, Myrna (Daniel) Eaton of Temora, Australia; one son, J. Raymond (Tina) Boone of Ravenna, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Sara Eaton Marschall, Jessianne Eaton, Lee Eaton, Dane Eaton, Laura Boone Allen, Amy Boone, and Joseph Boone; four great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mildred Boone of Hookstown, PA; and a brother âa�"in-law James Todd of New Concord, OH. Friends may call Wednesday from 4-8PM at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland and Thursday 10:00-10:45 AM at the Poland Presbyterian Church Funeral services will be Thursday 11 AM at the church.. Burial will be at Mill Creek Hill Cemetery in Georgetown, Pennsylvania.
