Struthers - Joseph Balogh, 72, of Struthers, died July 5, 2009 at his home after a courageous three-year battle with cancer.

Mr. Balogh was born June 21, 1937 in Youngstown, the son of the late Joseph and Vilma Nyiri Balogh.

He was a 1955 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School. Mr. Balogh worked as an oiler for General Motors for 30 years, retiring in 1994.

He was a member of St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Struthers and the UAW Local 1112. Mr. Balogh was an Army Veteran serving in Korea.

An outdoorsman, Mr. Balogh enjoyed boating, fishing, and hunting. He particularly enjoyed spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren's sporting events.

He leaves his wife, the former Delores Hatala, whom he married April 4, 1959; his daughter, Joyce (Bob) Czopur of Salem; his son, Joey (Shelly Matijasic) Balogh of Struthers; two grandchildren, Zachary and Morgan Czopur; a sister, Betty Kern of Boardman; and a sister-in-law, Mitzi (Tony) Quattro of Struthers.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9:15 a.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers and 10 a.m. at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of the Valley for the excellent care given to Mr. Balogh.
