Jon L. "Jack" Walters, Sr

Jon L. âa�A"Jackâa�A� Walters, Sr. 69 Struthers- Jon L. Walters, Sr., 69, of 10th Street died early Sunday morning at St. Elizabeth Medical Center after a brief illness. Mr. Walters was born March 25, 1936 in Youngstown, a son of John and Dorothy Valentine Walters and was a life-long resident of Struthers. Mr. Walters affectionately known as Jack was a 1955 graduate of Struthers High School where he was an accomplished athlete, lettering in both football and track. He participated in varsity football for 4 years and track for 5 years. From 1956 until 1959 he so proudly served in the United States Army 82nd Airborne Division as a paratrooper where he was a parachute rigger. Jack returned to Struthers, and in 1968 along with his wife Marianne, joined his father, John, in operating The Elmton, a well known eating establishment in Struthers which was originated by his father in 1945. Jack was a member of St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church, The Lyons Club, Struthers Gridiron and the Struthers Business Association. In 2003 he established the Elmton Mug Club Scholarship which benefits Struthers High School students. Jack loved to golf and was a member of The Elmton Golf League. Besides his wife the former Marianne Pezzone whom he married September 14, 1957, Jack leaves one daughter, Michelle (Kenneth) Gee of Sagamore Hills; four sons, Jon Walters Jr., of Struthers, Robert (Sandra) Walters of Boardman, Michael (Stephanie) Walters of Rancho Cucamonga, California and Keith Walters of Copley; four brothers, James Walters of Girard, Don Rosensteel of North Lima, Jack Rosensteel and Timothy Rosensteel both of Bradenton, Florida; eleven grandchildren, Justin, Ryan, Eric, Stepjohnie, April, Samantha, Nicole, Alexander, Austin, Melissa, and Angela; and one great-grandson, Braylen. Besides his parents, Jack was preceded in death by one sister, Catherine Watson and his stepfather, Milford Rosensteel. Funeral services will be Wednesday, 9:00 AM at the Davidson-Becker Funeral home, Struthers and 10:00 AM at St. Nicholas Church. Friends may call Tuesday from 5-8 PM at the funeral home.
