Broad Channel - Johnette Sullivan-Hoop, 69, of Broad Channel, New York, died Friday morning at Peninsula General Hospital.
Johnette was born May 17, 1940 in New York, New York, a daughter of Alfred and Marie Brumm Sullivan. She was raised in New York and was a graduate of Flushing High School. Moving to Western Pennsylvania, Johnette attended Carnegie-Tech, now Carnegie Mellon University. She graduated in 1965 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Classical Theater.
After years devoted to raising her family and performing her own one woman show in Pittsburgh, Johnette returned to New York and to her passion the stage and screen. Johnette had such range, she embraced every roll, whether her part was a walk on, or main event. Her many rolls off-broadway included Helga for 5 years in Grandma Sylvia's Funeral, Lady Bracknell in The Importance of Being Ernest, Norma in The Deviners, Belise in Moliers's Learned Ladies, Mrs. Kirby in You Can't Take It With You, and the mother in Barefoot in the Park.
Johnette was also proud to have worked as a metalurgical observer for Homestead Works of U.S Steel Company from 1973 until 1979.
She also was an educator and taught in Allegheny County and New York City. In New York, Johnette would teach in the morning and then went on to act in the afternoon and evenings. She was a member of AFTRA, SAG, and Actors Equity.
Johnette was a great advocate for animals, she rescued many dogs, and loved all creatures big and small.
Johnette leaves her husband, David A. Hoop, whom she married August 28, 1976; one daughter, Sarah McKinley Hoop of High Falls, NY; two sons, Jonathon Warrington Mayo of Lake Worth, FL and Gavin Sullivan Hoop of Astoria, NY; one niece Pat Miller; one nephew, Alfred Sullivan; and father and mother-in-law, Bill and Jean Hoop of Struthers.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 5:00 p.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Ferris officiating.
Friends will be received Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. until 4:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
