Poland - John G. “Buddy” Dubiel, 83, of Poland, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2023.
Buddy was born on April 20, 1940, to Helen and John in Youngstown. He was a 1958 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Youngstown. It was then that he began dating his future wife, the former Carol Badurik. They married May 9, 1959, and lived most of their life together in Poland Township.
From an early age, Buddy loved trains. Through the years, he built a suspended train track that ran in his basement. He was also a master wood carpenter by hobby, and overall handyman. For years on Thursdays, Buddy could be found at Lowellville Rod & Gun with friends.
Everyone who has met Buddy can agree he always had a joke. As the “president” of his family, he often introduced Carol as his “CEO.” Everywhere he went, Buddy made a friend, making people laugh. In fact, rumor has it that he made “dad jokes” popular before they were even a thing.
Quite literally, surviving Buddy and his jokes at home is his beloved CEO and soulmate, Carol. Together they had three children, who also succeed Buddy: son John (Joanne); daughter, Karen Davis (David); and daughter, Andrea Bingham (John). He also leaves four grandchildren: Ashley Fox (Chris); Jason Fox; Andrew Dubiel; and Alexis Dubiel (Megan). There are also his six remaining siblings: Mary Ann, Jimmy, Sue, Janice Ruth, Leslie, and Billy, along with many nieces and nephews.
Buddy’s final wishes were that there would be no calling hours. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, May 17, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Church, 2729 Center Road in Poland.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
To quote Buddy for everyone who was his friend, including those who were with him in his final moments, “as they say in the Army… Tanks."
Arrangements are being handled by Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main Street in Poland.
