Youngstown - John C.Yavorsky, 100, formerly of Brownlee Woods, died early Tuesday morning, March 6, 2012 at the Victoria House.
Mr. Yavorsky was born May 28, 1911 at home in Youngstown, a son of John and Katherine (Leson) Yavorsky.
He attended St. Matthias and Adams grade schools and Central Junior High School in downtown Youngstown. In 1927, at the age of 16, he graduated from South High School. Immediately after graduation, he started working at Howensting's Drugstore. In 1930, he began working at Youngstown Republic Steel, where he worked until retiring in 1970.
Mr. Yavorsky was one of the founding members of St. Luke Catholic Church in Boardman and a member of the Holy Name Society. He attended the church until moving into assisted living several years ago at the Victoria House in Austintown. He was also a member and past secretary of the Jednota Lodge. Surrounded by family and friends, Mr. Yavorsky celebrated his 100th birthday this past May at the Victoria House.
His wife of 69 years, the former Anne Marie Muransky, whom he married Thanksgiving Day in 1936, died August 24, 2006. He is survived by his two sons, Dr. John Dennis (Nancy) Yavorsky of Fort Myers, FL and Donald J. (Marianne) Yavorsky of Petersburg, VA; sister, Mildred Repko of Youngstown; sister-in-law, Dora Yavorsky of Youngstown; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Katherine Boback and Ethel Yavorsky; and two brothers, Leonard and Eddie Yavorsky.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in the chapel at St. Luke Catholic Church with Deacon Richard Milanek officiating. Family and friends will be received in the chapel one hour prior to the memorial service. Interment will follow at Lake Park Cemetery.
