Struthers - John Russell Wagner, Jr, 68, of Struthers, died Monday evening, November 16, 2015, of complications from diabetes, at Northside Medical Center Valley Care.
John was born July 4, 1947 in Youngstown, a son of John Russell Sr., and Betty Wasser Wagner.
A life long resident of Struthers, John attended Struthers High School. In 1966 he enlisted in the United States Army and served in Vietnam. Returning to Struthers John worked on the spike line at Youngstown Sheet & Tube. At its closing, he became a self employed roofer, and later, established Mom's Lawn Care. John attended Metro Assembly of God.
John loved baseball and was a loyal fan of the Indians. His other favorite past-time was fishing at Mosquito Lake, Berlin Lake, and Lake Milton. In earlier days he enjoyed hunting, photography, and operating the ham radio.
Besides his mother, Betty, of Struthers, John leaves three sons, John Russell (Victoria) Wagner III of Youngstown, Thomas Carl Wagner of Austintown and Richard Wagner of Warren; one daughter, Joann Wagner of Niles; two brothers, Paul Wagner and Jeff Wagner, both of Struthers; thirteen grandchildren; and six nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his father, John Russell Wagner, Sr.
Funeral services will be held Monday, 6:00 PM at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers with Pastor Al Yanno officiating.
Friends will be received Monday from 4:00 PM to 5:45 PM at the Funeral Home.
