John J. Vett

John J. Vett, 79 Poland- John J. Vett, 79, of 8237 Van Dr. died early Saturday morning at St. Elizabeth Health Care Center. Mr. Vett was born in Youngstown September 22, 1924, a son of Michael and Susan Lahita Vetrecin. He was a life long area resident. He was a 1942 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. He graduated from Case Western Reserve with a Degree in Metallurgical Engineering in 1949. He previously went to Columbia University where he was commissioned as an Ensign and later became a Lieutenant in the Navy. He served during WWII and the Korean War. Mr. Vett worked at Youngstown Sheet & Tube (LTV) for 35 years retiring in 1989. He was a member of Holy Family Church, where he was involved with the seniors group. He was also a member of the Chatter Box Club, American Society of Metals, and the Local 2162 Menâa�a��s Senior Citizenâa�a��s Association. He enjoyed golf and played in many golf leagues. He leaves his wife the former, Louise Savor, whom he married April 26, 1958; one daughter, Mary Lou (Richard) Dale of Struthers; one son, Jim (Jennifer) Vett of Sarasota, FL.; and two grandchildren, Emily and Becky Dale of Struthers. Funeral services will be Tuesday 10:30 AM at the Holy Family Church. Friends may call Tuesday from 9:00-10:15 AM at the church In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent to the charity of your choice. Arrangements are being handled by the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland.
