John Alden Strange, 80 Boardman- John Alden Strange, 80, of 6929 Ron Joy Place, died Tuesday morning at Metro Health Medical Center in Cleveland. Mr. Strange also known as Jack was born December 6, 1923, in Philipsburg, Pennsylvania, a son of Maurice and Edna Poorman Strange. He came to this area as a young boy. For 21 years he was a purchasing agent for Youngstown Sheet & Tube and then was a salesman for Decker Reichart Steel Products retiring in 1988. He was a World War II Army Veteran serving in the 25th Infantry Division in the South Pacific and later served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Strange was a 57 year member of the Brownlee Woods Presbyterian Church where he served as elder, trustee and usher. He was a 50 year volunteer for the American Red Cross and was active in disaster services, a member of the Myesthia Gravis Association and Hillman Lodge F&AM #481. He was a 1942 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. He was a sportsman enjoying golfing, hunting and fishing, and was a Civil War enthusiast traveling to both Gettysburg and Williamsburg. Besides his wife the former Ethel Gorby whom he married February 22, 1947, he leaves one daughter, Susan (John) Denoon of Galion, Ohio; one son, John D. (Peggy) Strange of Boardman; one sister, Kathleen Strange of Youngstown; five grandchildren, Jon (Lisa) Strange, Todd (Katie) Strange, Heather Strange and Shane and Stacy Denoon and three great-grandchildren. Friends may call Thursday, from 5-8 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland. Memorial services will be Friday, 5:30 p.m. at the Brownlee Woods Presbyterian Church.
