North Lima - John Howard Smith, 53 of North Lima, died of complications due to a stroke, Saturday evening, December 16, 2017 at the Cleveland Clinic.
John was born September 5, 1964 in Youngstown, a son of Russell and Mary Ann Dobrescu Smith. Raised in Brownlee Woods, John attended Cardinal Mooney High School and Choffin Career Center and graduated in 1982.
John enjoyed his career as Senior Business Development Manager for Global-Pak, Inc. in Lisbon. He felt compelled to know his customers, embraced coworkers as family, and sought to and help each of them achieve their unique goals. He loved listening to music including The Beatles, Joe Bonamassa, and Classic Rock. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved gardening, maintaining his yard and he always felt pride in his work. John loved spending time with his family and friends and always felt accomplishment in helping others. John was most proud of his family. A dedicated husband and father, John loved spending his time with them and was active in their lives through Soccer, Scouts and Band. He and his wife made time for peaceful Sunday mornings with Theo, the family dog, and enjoyed traveling and planning their future.
John leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, the former Krista Mau whom he married May 13, 1995; two daughters, Christina and Megan Smith both at home; one son, Brandon Smith also at home; two brothers, Thomas Smith of Canfield and Robert (Kathy) Smith of Burnside, KY; four nephews, Brett (Allison) and Evan Smith, Robert Smith and Ivan Wentz; three nieces, Michele and Jillian Smith and Adriane Wentz; one sister-in-law, Kaari Wentz of Boardman;and his father-in-law, Richard Mau of Austintown.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Janet Mau.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday at 6:00 PM at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home in Boardman. Friends may call Thursday from 4:00 PM until 5:45 PM at the funeral home. A dinner will follow at the Becker Family Center.
John's family requests that any gifts take the form of contributions to go towards his children's college education. Contributions can be made to the John Smith College Fund at Huntington Bank, 24 N. Park Avenue, Lisbon, Ohio 44432.
