John Siskowic

San Diego, CA- John Siskowic, 82, died on February 23, 2014 from lung cancer.
John was born on July 26, 1931 in Youngstown, a son of Martha and John Siskowic, Sr.
He was a June 1949 graduate of Struthers High School, where he was valedictorian of his senior class, class president for four years, football captain for four years, and National Honor Society President. In 1988, John was inducted into the Struthers Football Hall of Fame.
John attended Vanderbilt University on a football scholarship and transferred to the College of Wooster. At Wooster, he was a star halfback and the second leading scorer in Ohio his senior year. John's claim to fame at Wooster was scoring three touchdowns in three minutes and in 1995, John was inducted into the school's Hall of Fame.
John was a United States Army veteran, serving two years.
In 1960, he received his Master of Education degree from Kent State University. Mr. Siskowic taught social studies at Boardman High School for six years. He also coached football and was fond of recalling one undefeated season. John then moved to Torrance, CA, where he taught at West High for 25 years.
He and his first wife, Nancy, had two children together. Upon his retirement, John moved to San Diego, married his college sweetheart, Shirley, and enjoyed his retirement years.
John is survived by his wife, Shirley; two children, John and Julie; three brothers, Sam (Polly) of San Diego, David (Marge) of Centennial, CO, and Paul of Marietta, OH; and several nieces and nephews and close cousins.
John was described by others as loving, humorous, friendly, kind, responsible, thrifty, and a warrior on the football field. He was a strong Christian. May his rest be this day in peace and his dwelling place in heaven with God. Our love for him will be with us throughout eternity and his spirit will forever shine in our hearts.
