John R. "Jack" Siersdorfer

John R. "Jack" Siersdorfer, 87 of Boardman passed away with his family at his side Tuesday, Sept 16, 2014. Jack was born Sept. 19, 1926 in Youngstown, a son of Fred and Amy (Kern) Siersdorfer, loving husband of Verna (Muir) Sierdorfer passed away after a 30 year long battle with Parkinson's.

Jack retired from the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local #396, having worked for many local companies throughout his career. He served on both the union's Refrigeration and Examining Board and the Health and Welfare Board earlier in his career. He was taught his craft by his stepfather- in- law Wilbur Drake of Niles. Prior to his career he was a postman in the Canfield area.

He attended Youngstown College (YSU) after returning from the service to his country with the US Army, where he was stationed in the Philippines as a cook. He would write loving letters home to his mother weekly. His parents followed their three sons' journey on a world globe that has remained in the family since.

Jack loved his family and golf. He was an avid golfer and was on many leagues during his lifetime, but his love was his family. They would enjoy golfing together on Saturdays, family vacations, and good times together throughout his life. During retirement Jack and Verna had a residence in Ft. Myers, Florida, where they gathered more friends and good times were plentiful. He was a past member of Cornersburg United Methodist Church and Western Reserve United Methodist Church of Canfield.

He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Verna (Muir) whom he married July 1, 1950. His daughter, Nancy (Roger) Irwin-Wright of Canfield, and his only grandchild, Attorney James M. Irwin, of Cleveland whom he was so proud of, and a brother, Fred Siersdorfer and his wife Marianne of Pittsburgh. Also, many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his son, John A. Siersdorfer (1965-1985), whom he loved very much and missed daily, his mother and father, Fred and Amy Sierdorfer, brother William Siersdorfer and sister in law Phyllis Siersdorfer.

There will be a memorial service to honor his life on Friday Sept 19th at noon with calling hours from 11:30 a.m. to noon at Davis-Becker Funeral Home in Boardman.

The family requests material tributes take the form of contributions to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, Ohio 44512.
