John E. Rice

Poland - John E. Rice, 82, died Dec. 8, 2011, at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
John was born Feb. 3, 1929, in Chester, W.Va., the son of Roy and Florence Pugh Rice.
He was a Chester High School graduate and went on to The Ohio State University, where he received a Bachelor's of Science in Agriculture. John worked for Schering-Plough in Pharmaceutical sales for 33 years.
He was a member of the Poland Presbyterian Church, where he was a elder and Sunday School Superintendent. He belonged to the Poland Baseball Association and The Hine Fund.
John was the groundskeeper of the Poland Village Green for 10 years and was president of the STEP Committee. John was an avid sports fan and loved Ohio State. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean conflict.
He leaves a wife, Doris of Poland; two daughters, Janice (Steve) Epstein of Akron and Julie (Jack) Miles of Weddington, N.C.; two sons, Tim Rice of Erie and Tony (Jane) Congelio of Poland; a sister, Joyce (Gene) Ledbetter of Cincinnati; eight grandchildren, Cara Epstein of Atlanta, Collin Epstein of Akron, Allison Epstein of Akron, John Miles of Weddington, Lindsay Miles of Weddington, Megan Miles of Weddington, Kerrie Miles of Weddington, and Chris Congelio of Poland.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Poland Presbyterian Church.
Friends will be received today from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland and Monday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.
Contributions may be made to the Poland Presbyterian Church, 2 Poland Manor Drive, Poland, OH 44512, in memory of John Rice.
