Poland - John Carl Perry, 66, of Poland, died Wednesday morning, November 6, after a four month battle with ALS at Hospice of the Valley, Hospice House.
John was born May 25, 1947 in Youngstown, a son of John and Mary Jane Tashjian Perry.
He attended Wilson High School and graduated from Matthews High School in Vienna in 1965. John worked as an orderly for Trumbull Memorial Hospital while attending Kent State University and in 1967 enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served in Okinawa, Texas, and Little Rock, Arkansas where he was honorably discharged at the Rank of Sergeant.
In 1971 he returned to the area and worked as an Assembler for General Motors and retired in 2001.
He was a loyal blood donor for the American Red Cross. John was a faithful member of Infant Jesus of Prague. John was a very caring man who would go out of his way to help anyone in need. He loved his church and his family.
John leaves his wife, the former Diana Dyke, whom he married December 3, 1977; one son, Johnny Perry of Poland; two sisters, Suzanne (Tim) McLemore and Denise Perry all of Poland; two nephews, Aaron (Kayla) Kidd of Tampa, FL, and William Dyke of Utica, OH; four nieces, Tara (Kelly) Roberts of Kill Devil Hills,NC, Kalynda (Chris) Frankland of Poland, Madison and Hallie McLemore both of Poland, and Elizabeth Dyke of Utica, OH; one uncle, Dominic (Laura) Perry of Liberty; two aunts, Angela Warner and Annette Tashjian, both of Cleveland; three great nieces and one great nephew; extended family in Trinidad, Mr. and Mrs. Ken Ramkissoon, and Leila and Isabella Canata.
Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by one sister, Linda May Perry.
A Panachida will be held Monday at 9:15 AM at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland and the Liturgy at 10:00 AM at Infant Jesus of Prague Church in Boardman, with Christopher Burke officiating. Interment will follow at the Poland Riverside Cemetery.
Friends will be received Sunday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Funeral Home where the Parastas will be at 7:00 PM.
