John Oltean of Poland, Ohio a caring Husband and Father, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2016 with his family at his side. He was born October 30, 1927 in Youngstown, Ohio, son of the late John and Anna (Nicora) Oltean.
He was a graduate of Campbell High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Youngstown College. He was a Veteran of WWII and was proud to have served in the United States Army.
After several jobs in the field of engineering, Mr. Oltean started his own successful engineering firm, John Oltean & Associates . He headed this company for 35 years employing many staff and the firm was responsible for the detailed engineering work for many large projects in the Mahoning Valley and beyond. After retirement, he was able to enjoy other interests including his love for photography, especially of sunsets. He also was an avid gardener and loved to be out watching nature. But most of all, he cherished every moment spent with his family, and was fortunate enough to watch and participate in the lives of his two grandchildren, Eric (22) and Elliott (16) who will sadly miss his energy and passion for life. He will also be sadly missed by his loving wife of 63 years, Aurelia, his daughter Joan Griffith of Poland;his son and daughter -in-law John and Patricia Oltean of Michigan and his grandchildren Eric and Elliott Oltean.
Mr. Oltean was a member of Holy Trinity Romanian Orthodox Church and he was passionate about his Romanian heritage and cherished the lifelong friends he had met through the Church. He also was a member of the Struthers Rotary, American Engineering Society, and mulitple professional organizations related to his line of work.
A memorial service will be held on Monday March 14, 2016 at 6pm at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland. Friends will be received from 4-5:45 on that day.
The family asks that memorial donations be made in his name to Holy Trinity Romanian Orthodox Church, 626 Wick Ave, Youngstown, OH 44502, or to Hospice of the Valley.
