Struthers - John Morelli, 86 of Struthers, died Saturday, April 2, 2011 at the Hospice House with his family at his side.
He was born May 20, 1924 in Youngstown, a son of Santos and Rose Morelli.
Mr. Morelli attended South High School, and worked as a Tire Builder for Daunt Vanica Tire Company in Youngstown before entering the US. Army. He served as a Rifleman in Company A, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 42nd Division. He served in France, Germany and Austria and received the European, African and Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, the American Theater Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Following his return home from the war he started his own business John's Gas Appliance Service and then worked in the Jones and Laughlin Steel retiring in 1983.
His wife if 63 years, the former Janet "Betty" McIlquham, whom he married December 6, 1947 died February 27, 2010
Mr. Morelli is survived by two sons, John (Linda) Morelli of Austintown, Raymond Morelli of Meadville; two daughters, Margaret (Alan) Cox of Pittsburgh, and Janet Morelli of Struthers; a brother, Santos (Maria) Morelli of Colorado, three grandchildren, Jennifer (Sean) Griewahn of Delta and Shawn (Megan) Gettan of Bolivar, Steven Morelli of Meadville; six great-grandchildren, Susan, Kaitlyn, Rebecca, Mathew, EJ, and Alex; and one great-great-grandchild, Zane.
Besides his parents and wife he was preceded in death by an infant sister, and two brothers, Anthony and Ralph Morelli.
Family and friends will be received Wednesday from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers, where the funeral services will be at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at Greenhaven Memorial Gardens in Canfield.
