Dr. John S. Conti passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2015. He was born on August 30, 1935 in New Castle, PA and was the son of Paul and Ann (Cestrone) Conti. He graduated from New Castle High School in 1953 and attended Duquesne University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree and then went on to Kent State University for a Master of Arts degree in Microbiology. John served honorably in the United States Army and was assigned to the US Army Chemical Corps, where he worked in neurological pharmacology from 1958-1960. He then went to medical school at the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium and earned his Medical Degree. Upon his return, Dr. Conti trained in Montreal, Quebec and then in Akron and Youngstown in both Internal and Emergency Medicine. He was a physician in the St. Joseph's Hospital Emergency Room in Warren for many years and worked as a staff physician at Youngstown Sheet and Tube. He established an Internal Medicine practice in Austintown and was on staff at Northside, Southside and St. Elizabeth Hospitals. He retired from active practice in 1992.
John was a faithful Roman Catholic and a parishioner of St. Dominic's Church in Youngstown.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings, Gabriel Conti, Anthony Conti and Margaret Passanisi.
He leaves his loving wife of 46 years, Paula A. Conti, R.N., and their sons, Paul A. Conti, M.D. of Columbus, Anthony G. Conti, M.D. (Francesca) of Plattsburgh, NY, Thomas J. Conti, M.D. (Francesca) of Chicago, IL and Stephen M. Conti, M.D. (Stephanie) of Poland. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren: John Michael, Paul Salvatore, Gabriella Sofia, Angela Maria, Joseph Carlo, Cristina Maria, John Sebastian, Michael Gabriel, Mary Therese, and Julie Marie Conti.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-5pm at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St.. Boardman.
A prayer service will be held on Monday at 9:15am at the funeral home, with a Mass of Christian Burial following at 10:00am at St. Dominic Church, 77 Lucius Ave. Youngstown. Following the mass, he will be laid to rest at St. Vitus Cemetery in New Castle, PA.
