Campbell - John A. McClellan, 74, died Thursday, March 1, 2018 at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center.
John was born March 28, 1943 in Youngstown, Ohio a son of Roy E. and Nora M. (Corrigan) McClellan and was a lifelong area resident.
A 1961 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School, John was employed as a truck driver most of his career. He first worked for Hollander Meats and Valley Drug Company, then Santisi Trucking, which became Peter J. Schmitt Trucking, and also for Borden's Dairy. He eventually retired from Astro Shapes in 1999. John was a member of the local Teamsters and United Steelworkers.
Mr. McClellan was a proud United States Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam Era in Germany. There, he developed his love for German beer.
John was able to fix most anything and took pride in being able to do his own repairs and mechanic work. In his free time, he enjoyed watching NASCAR and cheering on the Detroit Tigers and Lions and Notre Dame. John also loved to cookout, sitting on his porch, and enjoyed bowling and playing softball in his younger years.
John is survived by many special nieces and nephews; and his cat and faithful companion, Lucy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his seven siblings, Art McClellan, Marian Post, Ruth Moss, Roy James McClellan, Lawrence Williams, LaDonna Kupiec, and Austin (Joe) McClellan; as well as his cat and faithful companion, Bosco.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 5, 2018 at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
In honor of John's love for animals, memorial tributes can be made in his name to Animal Charity, 4140 Market St., Youngstown, Ohio 44512.
The family would like to send a special thank you to Ron and Gina Solinger for opening their home to John during the holidays and also to John's neighbors Andy and Missy for always keeping a special eye out for him.
