John D. Martin

John D. Martin, 85 Canton- John D. Martin, 85, of 551 North Orchard, Bolivar formerly of Smithfield St. Struthers, died Sunday morning at Mercy Medical Center. Mr. Martin was born May 12, 1917, in Whipple, OH, a son of the late Melvin and Myrtle Martin. He was a 1934 graduate of Lower Salem, Ohio High School. He moved to Struthers from Canfield in 1948. John was a member of the Struthers Church of Christ. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 1st Army from the Normandy landings fighting his way to Germany. He was employed by the Liquid Air Company, at Sharon Steel, working at both the Lowellville, and Farrell, PA plants as an oxygen operator, retiring in 1982 after 37 years of service. Besides he wife the former Fauntella Ruth Barnhouse, whom he married November 16,1946, he is survived by a daughter: Paula and son-in-law Larry Gill of Bolivar; a granddaughter: Lauryn Givens of Cleveland, and a brother: Clarence Martin of Whipple. An infant son: Melvin and an infant sister: Ollie Martin and a brother Russell preceded him in death. A funeral service will be held 1:30PM, Thursday at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-8 PM Wednesday and Thursday from 12:30 âa�"1:15 PM.
