John Robert âa�A"Dukeâa�A� Mamone Sr. Youngstown- John Robert Mamone Sr., 82, died early Wednesday morning at North Side Hospital. John also known as Duke was born July 22, 1922 in Rosebud, West Virginia, a son of John Robert and Maria Belotta Mamone. He was raised in Farrell, PA and later resided in the Youngstown area. Following high school, Duke entered the military and was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II serving from December of 1942 until April 1945. He served in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theatres and received the Bronze Battle Star. Returning to Youngstown he was a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service retiring in 1978. His wife, the former Margaret Blakely, whom he married January 21, 1949, died February 21, 1997. He is survived by two daughters, Cyndi (Michael) Schaffer of Atlanta, GA and Susan (Tom) Komara of Poland; two sons, John Robert Mamone of Youngstown and Jeff (Diane) Mamone of Austintown; one brother, Sam âa�A"Babeâa�A� Mamone of both Cortland and Florida; and nine grandchildren. Besides his parents and wife, two sisters, Mary Sheridan and Josephine Panella; and two brothers, Robert and Nicholas Mamone preceded him in death. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, 10:30AM at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland. Friends may call Friday evening from 5-8 PM at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent at
