John F. Lesniak

Boardman - John F. Lesniak, 80, died Thursday, February 2, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

John was born September 12, 1936 in New Castle, PA, the only child of Joseph and Mary Winarski Lesniak.

Raised in New Castle, he was a 1953 graduate of New Castle High School and moved to Youngstown with his family after graduation. He then attended Youngstown State University and received his associate's degree in accounting.

John served in the United States Army in Germay from 1958 until his honorable discharge in 1960. After his military service, he returned to Youngstown and began working in the fabrication and design department for Youngstown Steel Door until its closing. He then worked for Store Systems & Engineering in Youngstown until his retirement at the age of 62.

John attended St. Dominic Church and was a member of the United Steelworkers of America and the Silver Sneakers. Throughout the years, John was a supporter of local veteran's organizations and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

John was a giving and dedicated family man, who loved spending time and laughing with his family. In his free time, he enjoyed traveling, walking, bird watching, gardening, watching all types of sports, rooting for the Cleveland sports teams, and camping with his family in his earlier years. He also loved music, especially country and polka, which he enjoyed dancing to and attending concerts at the Packard Music Hall.

His wife, the former Marie A. Cerosky, whom he married October 15, 1966, preceded him in death on October 9, 1991. He is survived by his five children, Michael (Dana) Lesniak of Boardman, Steve (Jennifer) Lesniak of Kettering, Michele (Garett) Brazina of Ashburn, VA, Carl (Teri) Lesniak of Hudson, and John Lesniak of Youngstown; and eight grandchildren.

A prayer service will be held on Monday at 9:15 a.m. at Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Dominic Church. Interment will follow at Lake Park Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received on Sunday from 1-4 p.m. at the funeral home.
