Poland - John "Jack" Michael Knapik, 71, of Poland, died Wednesday evening, August 26, 2009 at Caprice Health Care Center, surrounded by his family and friends.
Mr. Knapik was born February 5, 1938 in Youngstown, the son of John and Susanne Sarisky Knapik.
A graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Mr. Knapik worked as a millwright for Youngstown Sheet and Tube for approximately 30 years. He was a United States Army Veteran serving during Vietnam.
Mr. Knapik was a member of St. Dominic Church in Youngstown. His hobbies included set design at the Youngstown Playhouse, woodworking, making pottery, and mountain biking. He was also an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians and Browns and Ohio State University.
His wife, the former Nancy Louise Gardner, whom he married September 12, 1964, died May 3, 1992. He leaves two daughters, Janine (Dean) Thornberry of Pickerington and Lori (David) Wolfe of Poland; two sisters, Elizabeth Kunzer and Dorothy Murphy, both of Youngstown; and ten grandchildren, Andrew, Jacob, Hannah, Sarah, Rachel, and Emma Wolfe and Katie, Allison, Jack, and Ben Thornberry.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Eleanor Nestor.
Services will be held Saturday at 2:00 pm.at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland, where family and friends will be received from noon to 1:45 pm. Interment will follow at Lake Park Cemetery where full military honors will be provided.
