Poland - John Kelty, 76, of Poland, died Saturday evening, November 26, 2016 from Alzheimer's disease at Greenbriar Healthcare Center, surrounded by his family.
John was born August 1, 1940 in Youngstown, a son of the late Jack and Virginia Knupp Kelty.
A 1959 graduate of East High School, John worked as a truck driver for Strimbu Trucking. He retired in 2006 after over 20 years of service.
John was an avid sports fan and was known to go back and forth with who his favorite teams were, but the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pirates usually ranked first. He especially enjoyed spending his Saturdays with his son, Johnny, watching games at their favorite place, Quaker Steak & Lube.
Some of his other favorite pastimes were playing cards, long car rides, and annual trips to Cedar Point. He also loved working in the yard and sitting down to a great dinner. John was a very loyal friend and maintained many friendships from back in the day.
He leaves his wife of 54 years, the former Shirley Adams, whom he married October 3, 1962; three daughters, Sherry (Richard) Perrott of Hillsville, PA, Karen (Richard) Hornyak of Belleville, Michigan, and Christine (Michael) Bagnoli of Boardman; two sons, John Kelty of Poland and Bill (Shari) Kelty of Boardman; two brothers, Tom (Shirley) Kelty of Struthers and George Kelty of Austintown; three grandchildren, Natalie Hornyak, and Zachary and Dominic Bagnoli.
A prayer service will be held on Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. at Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main St., Poland, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Angela Merici Parish (formerly Sacred Heart), 400 Lincoln Park Dr., Youngstown, with Fr. Kevin Peters officiating.
Family and friends will be received on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
