John Grant Gingery

Struthers - John Grant Gingery, 84, died Tuesday morning, December 6, 2016 at his residence.

John was born December 9, 1931 in Youngstown, a son of Ward and Kathryn Herman Gingery.

A life long resident of Struthers, John was a graduate of Struthers High School, January Class of 1950. John started out as a millwright helper for Sharon Steel Company in Lowellville and later worked in the electric furnace of Sharon Steel in Farrell, PA. After 41 years of service he retired as a head melter in 1991.

He was a proud veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean Conflict. He served in Korea from 1952 until his honorable discharge in 1954. He received the Korean Service Medal, Bronze Service Star, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation.

John was a member of the Struthers Gridiron, StruthersVFW Post #3538, the American Legion Post #0158, the F.O.E. Post #1035, and the Struthers Historical Society. He was also a member of the former Struthers Athletic Club. An avid golfer, John belonged to several golf leagues and had two Holes in One at Rolling Hills and Diamond Back Golf Courses.

His wife, the former Geraldine Joseph, whom he married February 19, 1955 died October 10, 2014. He leaves one daughter, Daria (Robert) Travaline of Lowellville; three sons, John (Ruth Ann Beatty) Gingery of Poland, Robert Gingery of Struthers, and Michael (Melony) Gingery of Parkersburg, WV; six grandchildren, Kerri Gingery, Lindsey (Adam) Richey, Mario (Kirsten), Katie, and Vince Travaline, and Tyler Gingery; and two great-grandchildren, Micah and Everlee.

In addition to his parents and wife, John was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Louise Blisard.

Family and friends may call Friday from 4-7 PM at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers, where a funeral service will be held Saturday at 11:00 AM with Deacon John Terranova officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at St. John Cemetery.
