Youngstown - John A. Fleeger, 70, of Poland, died Wednesday evening at the Hospice House. John was born October 2, 1938 in New Castle, PA, a son of Ralph and Mary Wrona Fleeger. He was raised in New Castle and came to this area in 1974. He was a graduate of Shenango High School in New Castle and completed Metallurgy courses at Youngstown State University. John was a certified professional manager and worked as General Foreman for Youngstown Sheet & Tube and later LTV. John also worked in environmental clean up for LTV in Indiana Harbor. He retired in 1993 after over 40 years of service. After retirement from LTV he was maintenance foreman for Boardman Township Parks for 6 years retiring in 2000. John was a United States Marine Corp Veteran serving from 1956 until 1959. He was stationed at the Marine Air Base in Jacksonville, Fla., and was transferred to Japan in 1958. In 1959 he was awarded the Marine of the Month of the 1st Marine Air Wing. Previous to that he was awarded Marine of the Month of the squadron and Marine of the Month for his group. John was an avid fisherman, enjoying both trout fishing in Pennsylvania and Walleye fishing on Lake Erie. Besides his wife of 47 years, the former Sandra Lokovich he leaves two sisters, Stella Gonet of New Castle, PA, and Myra (Joseph) Bucceri of Reedsville, PA; one brother, Ralph Fleeger of New Castle; one goddaughter, Suzanne (Dominick) Carnevali of Johnstown, PA; two sister-in-laws of Butler, PA; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by his infant son, John Adam Fleeger. Services will be held Saturday, 1:00 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland with Rev. Gary Rozier officiating. Friends may call Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Private interment will follow Monday at the Graceland Cemetery in New Castle.
