North Jackson - John H. Factor, 87, of North Jackson, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 16, 2024, at Hospice House after a short illness.
Born on December 24, 1936, in Youngstown, John was the only son of the late Joseph and Vida (Hiet) Factor.
John attended East High School and served in the United States Army. He was a member of Canfield United Methodist Church.
His early career included positions at Republic Steel, Youngstown Steel Door and the Ravenna Arsenal. But he made his mark and was most well-known within the automotive industry where he built a successful career as a sales manager at several local car dealerships. His customers benefited from his reputation, knowledge and expertise at Spartan Chevrolet, Apostolakis Honda, and Eastwood Dodge. Known industry-wide, he served countless loyal customers until his retirement in 1996.
John was a dedicated mason and an active member for 24 years of the Argus Lodge No 545 F&AM, where he obtained the 32nd Degree. He enjoyed many friendships at Argus and was a part of the Tuesday Bunch that regularly maintained the grounds. John was also a member of Aut Mori Grotto and the Youngstown Shrine Club, frequently volunteering to drive children and their families to the Shriners Hospital in Erie, PA for treatment.
An avid outdoorsman, John was always happiest during hunting season in many areas of Ohio and Pennsylvania and at various family cabins. Most recently he spent outdoor time at their cabin on Leesville Lake. He was a skilled woodworker who lovingly created wooden toys and a cradle passed down through the family. John also enjoyed golfing at Salem Golf Club for many years.
John cherished family moments during the holidays and at birthdays and will be lovingly remembered for his commitment to his family, his strong work ethic and for his signature greeting, “Hello there.”
John leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 38 years, the former Sheila J. Oliver; his two sons, Joseph (Lori) Factor, of Canfield and Jon Factor, of North Jackson; two grandchildren, Megan Factor and Michael Factor, his in-laws, Harold and Shirley Oliver and their family.
