NEWTON FALLS -- John "Jack" Thomas Dishong, 89, of Newton Falls, died Friday, February 5, 2010 at the Washington Square Nursing Home in Warren after a short illness.
He was born March 27, 1920 in Vintondale, PA a son of Oscar and Frances Donahue Dishong.
Mr. Dishong proudly served our Country during WWII, he served as a Medic in the 5th Army. Mr. Dishong recieved the Purple Heart after combat in Anzio, Italy. He had a long career in car sales in the Kent and Ravenna area, a life long interest in gardening and the stock market and has enjoyed his retirement years.
His wife, the former Chloe Elinor Yaw whom he married in June of 1955, died March 17, 2004.
Mr. Dishong is survived by a daughter, Chloe Frances (Kenneth) Barnett of Cary, NC; a son Jack Carlton Dishong of Newton Falls, a sister Mildred Westfall of Ravenna, and grandchildren, Kristian Amory Barnett, Jonathan Free, Mark Eugene Dishong, Raechelle and Rebecca Wright; great-grandchildren Robert Timothy, Kristica Chloe and Kody Glen Barnett, Logan, Damon Joseph and Kayden Michael Dishong. Jack leaves many much loved nieces and nephews in Florida, Alabama, North Carolina, Ohio and relatives in Pennsylvania, and numerous wonderful friends in the Newton Falls, Ravenna and Warren area.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers Robert, Charles, Carl Dishong and a sister Marie Kinter.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service and interment with his wife Chloe will be held March 27, 2010 at the Hawley Cemetery in Paris Township in Portage County Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jack's name to the American Cancer Society, 525 North Broad Street, Canfield OH 44471.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Davidson Becker Funeral Home in Struthers.
