John Dimoff

June 21, 1925 — February 28, 2011

John Dimoff, 85 of New Middletown, died Monday, February 28, 2011 at the Masternick Memorial Health Care Center.

Mr. Dimoff was born June 21, 1925 in Youngstown, a son of Thomas and Martha Zavada Dimoff, and was a lifelong area resident.

He was a 1944 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School. During WWII, he served in the Army, as a Guard Patrolman, fighting in the Battle of the Rhineland and Central Europe. He received the European, African, Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal, the Occupation Medal and the Distinguished Unit Badge. Upon his return home, he had worked as a truck driver for 42 years, retiring in 1987. Mr. Dimoff was a member of the St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church in Campbell. He enjoyed bowling, roller skating, took pride in his yard, loved his Cadillacs, and was a Cleveland Browns, and Poland Bulldogs fan.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, the former Betty M. Ross, whom he married August 2, 1947. a daughter, Cheryl Harold of Massillon, a son, John (Carole) Dimoff of New Middletown; a sister Ann Bagnoli of Youngstown; a step-brother, George Pete of Youngstown; one grandson Keith Savikas ; and a great-granddaugther Deja Savikas.

Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Steve Dimoff, and a sister, Mary Bulatko.

Services were held Thursday.

Arrangements are being handled by the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland.
