New Albany - John Q. Dickmann, Sr., 77, died Monday, October 19, 2015 following a brief battle with cancer. He was raised in Alton, IL and married his love, Ann Maley at St. Patrick's Church in Alton, on March 30, 1959. He and Ann moved to Ohio in 1967, settling in Poland in 1972. They moved to New Albany in 2013.
John was a professional salesman for most of his life, and upon retirement had a woodworking business. He and Ann had five children, John Jr. (Lisa), Dean (Liliana), Kurt (Yvonne), Tracy (John) and Kristin; 10 grandchildren, Lindsay, Justin (Melissa), J. Quentin III, Dorothy, Alena, Clint, Ann Marie, Maggie, Jack and J.P.; and one great grandchild, Calvin.
John was active in the Youngstown swimming community, officiating at YMCA Neptune meets, Poland Swim Club and YSU meets. He served as President of the Poland Swim Club in the late 1970's.
John's greatest joys in life were his wife and family. He adored and cherished his wife of 56 years, his high school sweetheart. He was happiest when he was with his children and grandchildren, of whom he was extremely proud. In turn, he was a powerful role model for his children, a model of integrity, fidelity and undying support for his wife, children and grandchildren. He taught them how to live an honorable life. John's other great pleasure was his beloved dog, Sasha.
