Boardman - John Cuhran Jr, 78, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2017, surrounded by his loving family, at Assumption Village. He was born December 1, 1938 in Youngstown, to the late, John Sr. and Mary Manijak Cuhran.
He was a 1956 graduate of Struthers High School and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1958-1961, achieving the rank of Corporal. John was employed as a machinist at several machine shops and retired from United Foundries Inc. in 2001 following 32 years of employment. John also had a business, J's Lawn Service, with his son, Jim for ten years.
He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Lodge #1297. He was also a lifelong member of the New Middletown Sportsmans Club and was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. John loved spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed going to the casino with his wife Joan. He was a family man who will be deeply missed and will always be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather.
He leaves his loving wife, Joan Vincent Cuhran, whom he married on May 19, 1962; his sons, John J. Cuhran of Boardman and James (Amy) Cuhran of Perrysburg; his daughter, Jeanette (Ted) Barnes of San Diego, CA; grandchildren, Kathryn and Kyle Cuhran and Brittany and Maria Barnes; his brother, Joseph Cuhran of Struthers; his sister, Mary Agnes Shears of Austintown and his nephew, David Shears of Austintown.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, David Shears and his nephew, Danny Shears.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Saturday at 11am at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 7345 Westview Dr. in Boardman, with the Rev. Fr. Philip Rogers as Celebrant. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Friends will be received on Friday from 5-7pm at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St. Boardman and prior to the service from 10-10:45am at the church.
The family asks that any memorial donations be made, in John's name, to the Disabled American Veterans 2044 Youngstown Rd. SE Warren, OH 44484.
