Boardman
Boardman - John Christopher Boyd, cherished husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on March 13 with his wife of 56 years at his side. He will be remembered for his strength, intelligence, and a life rich in diverse interests and pursuits.
Born on May 8, 1940, in Huntington, West Virginia, John was the son of Richard and Mildred Boyd. He graduated from West Virginia University in 1962, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi, and went on to earn his Juris Doctorate from Franklin (now Capital University) Law School in Columbus, Ohio. While in law school, John met his Mary Alice and quickly won her heart with his good looks, impeccable manners, and a little white Triumph.
Following the birth of their son, Andrew, the young family moved to Youngstown and welcomed two daughters, Amy and Jennifer. As senior partner at Boyd, Rummell, Carach, Curry, Kaufmann, and Bins-Castronovo, John’s legal career spanned over five decades. He practiced law with integrity and humility, representing clients with dedication, honesty, and tireless advocacy.
Beyond his beloved family and legal career, John was a uniquely individual man whose passions shaped his remarkable journey through life. He was a wonderful cook, as comfortable preparing a perfect holiday roast as serving up his special cheesy eggs. He put as much love into the unassuming practicality of his early-American woodworking projects as he did to achieve the perfect power and roar in his American hot rod. He was an avid football fan, never missing a chance to cheer on his beloved Mountaineers, Browns, or (adopted) Penguins and he also had a deep appreciation for the serene delicacy of Japanese bonsai. John’s unique and beautifully complex soul, marked by his eclectic interests and unwavering passion, will forever inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived and deeply missed by wife Mary, children Andrew, Amy, and Jennifer; grandchildren Patrick, Kate, and Finnegan; son-in-laws Brad (Amy) Mason and Scott (Jen) Stephenson; brother Richard (Malinda) Boyd; brother-in-law David McClelland; a nephew and three nieces, and beloved dogs Rudy and Baxter.
A celebration of John’s life is planned for this summer.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations in John’s name to Westminster Presbyterian Church in Boardman, Ohio.
