Poland - John R. Biroschak, Sr., 95, died early Wednesday morning, October 16, 2013 at the Greenbriar in Boardman.
Mr. Biroschak was born June 3, 1918 in Whitney, PA, a son of Cornelius and Mary (Kazubul) Biroschak. As a young child, John moved to the family farm in Poland.
John started his career working in the mills for Wire Works. During World War II, he was employed as a foreman at General Fireproofing, building airplanes. John later served his apprenticeship in carpentry and was then introduced into the refined petroleum and gas industry, where he would spend the majority of his career. Mr. Biroschak worked for Poling & Bacon Company and retired as a job supervisor from Hames Construction and Equipment Company, serving as the company's secretary and treasurer.
Mr. Biroschak was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps., serving as a radio operator.
He was a member of Holy Family Parish in Poland and a former member of the Knights of Columbus. In his spare time, John enjoyed going to the green and playing a game of golf.
His wife, the former Agnes V. Petkunas, whom he married October 1, 1940, died January 5, 1991. John is survived by his son, John (Margaret) Biroschak, Jr. of Poland; and his grandson, Nathan Biroschak of Columbus.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Biroschak was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph, Stephen, and Mike Biroschak; and two sisters, Matilda Nivert and Helen Bacon.
Family and friends will be received on Sunday from 12-12:45 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland, followed by a funeral service on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Poland Riverside Cemetery.
