John N. "Jay" Basista

Struthers - John N. "Jay" Basista, 87, of Struthers, passed away on September 11, 2024, at Caprice Health Care Center.

 John was born February 11, 1937, in Struthers, a son to the late Ann Basista.

 He graduated in 1954 from Struthers High School. He then served in the United States Army. He married the love of his life the former Mary Ann Shebek on June 1, 1957, and together welcomed their three sons and were later blessed with two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He worked for many years as an electrician for General Electric and later for General Motors in Lordstown until his retirement.

John and Mary Ann enjoyed their moments Polka dancing and traveling to various destinations, such as Las Vegas and the many cruises they took. Jay could often be found cheering on his favorite Ohio teams, the Cleveland Browns, Indians, and Ohio State. He also found joy in the many classic car shows he attended.

 In addition to his loving wife of 67 years, Mary Ann, he is survived by his sons, John (Karen) Basista, of Poland, Steve Basista, of Austintown, and Richard Basista, of Struthers; his two grandchildren, Samantha Basista and Ben (Ashley) Basista, and their daughter Morgan Jaye Basista.

 Calling hours will be held on Monday, September 16, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, 11 Spring St. Struthers, Ohio. A Funeral Liturgy will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Infant Jesus of Prague Byzantine Catholic Church, 7754 South Ave, Boardman, OH 44512.

 Entombment will follow at St. John Catholic Church Cemetery, Lowellville.
