Canfield - John J. "Jack" Ball, 80, died early Saturday morning, September 20, 2014 at his home, surrounded by his family.

Mr. Ball was born December 1, 1933 in Youngstown, a son of James and Harriett Richardson Ball.

He was a 1952 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. Mr. Ball was employed by Youngstown Sheet & Tube and Republic Steel, enjoying working in their open hearths, later for United Engineering, and retired from General Motors in 1993. Jack was a dedicated family man and hard worker. Quite the craftsman, Jack could build or fix most anything. He built his family home in 1970, where he and his wife would raise their seven children and now host family gatherings at "Nan's and Papa's." In his free time, he enjoyed gardening, hunting, being outdoors, maintaining his yard, watching football and baseball, and family vacations to Disney World and the Outer Banks.

He was a member of Canfield Presbyterian Church.

Jack leaves his wife of 59 years, the former Jane A. Davis, whom he married September 17, 1955; six children, Linda (Barry) Morgan of Boardman, John (Deborah) Ball of Boardman, Janet (Lex) Prindle of Canfield, Mary Ball of Poland, Randall (Sara) Ball of Canfield, and Richard (Meghan) Ball of North Lima; a brother, Kenneth (Maria) Ball of Tucson, AZ; a daughter-in-law, Karen Ball of Columbiana; a brother-in-law, William (Betty) Davis of Boardman; a sister-in-law, Betty Lou Lentz of Beaver Creek; "Papa" to 13 grandchildren, Sarah (Pat) Scenna, Allison Morgan, Lex and Madison Prindle, Ginny and Katie Ball, Ashley and Thomas Crump, Randall Jr., Brooke, Morgan, and Hannah Ball and Bronwen Anne Ball; and three great-grandchildren, Barry and Kellen Pitzer, and Samuel Scenna.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his son, James Ball; five sisters, Kathleen Ball, Sarah Averbach, Rebecca Beichler, Harriett Huth, and infant Alice Ball; and two brothers, Richard and Howard Ball.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market Street, Boardman, with Rev. Larry Bowald officiating. Interment will follow at the Columbiana Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the funeral home.
