Boardman - Joseph J. Sieman, 81, died Monday morning, March 25, 2024, at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center.
Joe was born December 17, 1942 in Brownsville, PA, a son of Louis and Helen Yanatchko Sieman.
A 1960 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Joe attended Youngstown Business College for one year until enlisting in the United States Navy. He proudly served for four years on the USS Intrepid, which was used as the primary recovery vessel for the astronauts on NASA's first piloted Gemini mission.
After being honorably discharged, he returned to the Youngstown area and served as an electrician's apprentice with Republic Steel. Joe then worked many years as a machinist for United Engineering/Wean United, until their closing, and concluded his working career as a custodian for St. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church.
Joe was well-read, loved history, had the mind of a mechanic, inventor, and engineer, and always eager to share his ideas. He will be lovingly remembered for his kindness, thoughtfulness, ease to make conversation with everyone he met, and keen ability to never forget a face or name.
