Struthers - Joanne Darlene Simpson, 75, of Struthers, died Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.
Mrs. Simpson was born September 15, 1935 in Coitsville, a daughter of Angelo and Sylvia Tarnaski Ambrosia.
She was a 1953 graduate of East High School, where she was a drum-majorette and class prom queen. Mrs. Simpson attended Youngstown State University. She held many jobs throughout her life, including working as a lab technician for Abbey Studios and she retired from Bank One as an IRA Specialist.
Mrs. Simpson was a loving daughter, wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. She was admired by many for her wonderful disposition, her most positive outlook on life, and friendly ways. She was adventurous and enthusiastic about the outdoors and loved life and her many friends. Her passion was gardening in her yard which gave her comfort and peace. She loved flower arranging, swimming, decorating, dancing, painting, and all forms of art.
Mrs. Simpson was past-president of Creative and Snappy Snippers Garden Club, a past member of Arco Bocce League, Camelot Bowlers, and Twilighters Golf League. She was also a member of the Garden Forum of the Greater Youngstown Area and Columbus, the Maco Club, the Red Hat Society, and Christ Our Savior Parish at Holy Trinity Church, where she was a pyrohy worker.
She leaves her husband, Earl Simpson, whom she married September 1, 1956 at Sacred Heart Church; son, Mark (Gina Mascio) Simpson of Struthers; three sisters, Shirley (Bob) Burgess of West Monroe, LA, Nancy Casanta of Columbiana, and Carol Terlecki of Mesa, AZ; and three grandchildren, Shelby, Joshua, and Jacob Simpson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey Simpson; and two brothers-in-law, John Terlecki and Lou Casanta.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church in Struthers with Fr. Bernard Gaeta officiating. Interment will be at St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers.
