Youngstown - Joan Lee Kacenga, 86 of Youngstown died Saturday afternoon January 12, 2019 at the Hospice House in Poland. Joan was born August 6, 1932 in Youngstown, a daughter of Franklin and Ruth (Johnson) Foster and had been a lifelong area resident.
She was a 1950 graduate of South High School and had worked for Sears and had later worked for and retired from Packard Electric.
Joan married the love of her life, Lawrence "Pepsi" Kacenga. They enjoyed 49 wonderful years together before his death in August of 1999. Once they retired they were able to realize their great love of travel. They went on many memorable cross country trips to visit family, national landmarks and to Las Vegas.
She loved to play cards and was a member of a 500 bid club for over 60 years. She also enjoyed trips to casinos. She was well known for her Texas Sheet Cake and chocolate chip cookies.
She is survived by her four loving children, Ann (John) Cicero of Newton Falls, Lawrence (Karen) Kacenga of Poland, Michael (Kathy) Kacenga of Moorseville, NC, and Karen (Mark) Baker of Wilton, NH. She leaves five special grandchildren, Summer (Dan) Wasko of Lordstown, Briana (Scott) Cicero-Johns of Wooster, Craig (Emily) Cicero of Red Rock, AZ, , Lauren (Dom) Schneider of New Albany, Gabriel Kacenga of Moorseville, NC; eight great-grandchildren; three half-brothers, Franklin (Christina) Foster of Texas, Robert Foster of Pittsburgh, and John (Rachel) Wardle of Mingo Junction; a special cousin, Barbara Jean Kessler; her longtime friend, Marion Goske, and her special neighbors, Doug Martin, Frank Horvath, and Karen Peeples.
Besides her parents and her husband, Joan was preceded in death by her dearest sister, Dolores Scharf, who was her partner in many adventures, and was her best friend in life.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday January 17, 2018 at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland. Friends may call from 4-7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening and from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the services Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will follow the services at Lake Park Cemetery in Youngstown.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests material contributions take the form of donations to the American Cancer Society.
