Boardman - Joan L. Farmer, 85, passed away peacefully while hearing "In The Garden" being sung to her on February 19, 2024 at Parkside Health Care Center.
She was born January 25, 1939 in Youngstown, a daughter of the late David and Hazel (Schlegel) Smith. She graduated from East High School in 1956 and for a majority of her life, dedicated herself to raising her children.
Joan was the definition of a true patriot and lover of our country- so much so that she passed on President's Day, something anyone who knew her got a chuckle out of. She wrote over 35 letters to the editor of the Vindicator, and was passionate about collecting memorabilia from both parties, and had quite an extensive collection she was proud of.
She was well loved and loved those around her well. Her house was the place to be to play cards in her younger years, and she loved to play bingo, go to garage sales, and watch the Cleveland Browns and Indians. She enjoyed going to the Canfield Fair every year, especially when her husband was working there. When she became a resident at Parkside Health Care Center, she was beloved by the staff and residents. She could often be found scooting around the facility and offering her kind words or suggestions. They truly became like a second family to her.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughters, Terri Ramsey of Pensacola, FL and Sandra (Tom) Maloney of Boardman; her grandchildren, Quinton and Spencer Ramsey, Katie Hite, Jordana Young, and Neli Maloney; and her great-grandchildren, Liam, Jordana, and John.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ralph Farmer; and her brothers, Tom and Jerry Smith.
Per Joan's wishes, there will be no services or calling hours. She will be cremated and then laid to rest with her husband at Lake Park Cemetery.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude for the years of care the staff of Parkside Health Care Center provided to Joan through the years. It will never be forgotten.
