Joan M Demeny, age 72, of Poland, died on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 in the Cleveland Clinic. She was born in Youngstown on September 17, 1942 to the late Stephen and Jolanda Demeny and was a 1960 graduate of Poland High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society.
Joan went on to earn her nursing degree from the Trumbull School of Nursing in 1963, her B.S. in Nursing from Youngstown State University in 1977 and her Master's degree in 1984 from Cal State Los Angeles. She retired from West Los Angeles VA Health Systems in 2001, where she was the Director of Nursing Education.
Joan spent 25 years living in the Los Angeles, CA area and returned home in November of 2001 to care for her parents.
Joan was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Mu Chapter, volunteered with the Needle's Eye Ministries and was a former president of District 3 ONA in 1966-67.
She was a member of the Church of the Rock in Poland and the Church on the Way, while in California and volunteered at the Walter Hoving Home. She sang in the choir with the Kathryn Kuhlman Ministries. Joan's faith enabled her to anticipate eternal life with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Joan enjoyed traveling with her sister Linda and together, they experienced 36 different cruises. She enjoyed reading and had a great sense of humor. Joan will always be remembered as a loving and devoted sister.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her cousins, Milt Vassis and Margaret Poor. Survivors include her sister, Linda Demeny; and her cousins, Chris Vassis and Janie Sepsey.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11am in Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 North Main St. Poland, OH 44514. Burial will follow in Lake Park Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 6-8pm and prior to the service from 10-10:45am in the funeral home.
