Lowellville - Jennie Zelinka, 95 of Lowellville, passed into the arms of our loving Lord on Thursday, December 31, 2009 in her home surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Zelinka was born January 10, 1914 in Furlanija, Yugoslavia, a daughter of Frank and Mary Rubesha Cikovich. She came to America through Ellis Island with her parents when she was 10 years old. She spent her childhood and attended school in Struthers.
She was a homemaker who loved to cook and especially enjoyed preparing holiday dinner for her family. Her hobbies included gardening, crocheting and polka dancing. She was a member of the Penn Ohio Polka Booster Club for many years. She also was a member of the SNPJ Lodge, and the Moose Club of Lowellville.
On of the greatest joys of her life was babysitting her grandchildren, and was affectionately known by them as "Grandma Z" and "Great-Great". She will be sadly missed by all her family and friends that knew her and loved her.
Her husband, Stanley Zelinka, whom she married in 1934 died February 27, 1986.
Jennie is survived by one son, John (Marge Brooks) Zelinka of Youngstown; two daughters, Marijane (Jim) Walker of Poland and Beverly (Bruce) Kalmer of Lowellville; Seven grandchildren John (Christine) Zelinka II, Shelly (Jim) Miletta, Tammy (David) Wagner, Randy (Sue) Rubesa, John (Jean) Rubesa, Jennylynn (Mary Mead) Kalmer, and Ray (Leslie) Kalmer; seventeen great-grandchild, Mary and Olivia Zelinka, Marlana (Jim) Boyer, Weston and Drew Wagner, Michael, Matthew, Kaitlyn Rubesa, Brock, Sara, Libby, and Francesca Rubesa, Addison, Faith, Jordan, Kayden and Gwynevere Kalmer; and two great-great-grandsons, Bryan and Nicholas Boyer. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Michael Vuckovich, and three step-brothers, Frank, Ernest and John Cikovich.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff at the Greenbrier Rehabilitation Hospital which Jennie sincerely loved for the wonderful care they gave her. The family would also like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff of the Hospice House and their Home Care for the wonderful care they gave Jennie and her family in her home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be given in Jennie's name to the Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Road, Poland OH 44514
Private family memorial services will be held to celebrate Jennie's life on her birthday, Sunday, January 10, 2010.
