Struthers - Angelica Frances Morell, 93, of Struthers, died Friday evening at her home, surrounded by her children.
Angelica, affectionately known to everyone as Jennie, was born July 10, 1917 in New Castle, PA, a daughter of Anthony and Maria Santa Latore.
Jennie was raised in New Castle and was a 1934 graduate of New Castle High School. She came to Struthers in 1938 after her marriage to Thomas Morell. They raised their five children on the Northside of Struthers. Jennie moved to her Garfield residence after her husband's death in 1978.
Jennie was a wonderful homemaker. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was the last of her generation and a true matricarch of the Latore/Morell family.
Jennie became an active member of St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in 1938. She held various offices in the Altar and Rosary Society, Infant Jesus of Prague of which she was a founding member and the Confraternity of Christian Mothers where she served as president. Jennie and Tom initiated the first Sunday School for St. Nicholas Church in the basement of their home on the Northside. Since her 80th birthday, Jennie has had a Mass celebrated at her home annually, with her children, family and friends and Fr. Timothy O'Neill as Celebrant
She was devoted to the Blessed Mother and the Rosary, as well as Mother Angelica. She was very proud of her cousin Sister Elizabeth of the Order of Mother Theresa.
Jennie was also a member of the St. Nicholas Senior Citizens and the Italian Mothers Club.
Her husband Thomas whom she married November 16, 1938 died June 4, 1977. She leaves her daughters, Marie and Rosanne Morell, both of Struthers; sons, Albert (Mary Ann) Morell and Jerry (Donna) Morell all of Struthers; ten grandchildren, Thomas, Gerald, Jeffrey, Michael, Scotty, Gino, and Jason Morell, and Missy Tatar, Angie Flak, and Gina D'Amico; and seventeen great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband, Jennie was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Morell; sisters, Sadie Caffro, Esther Morell, and Mary Latore; and brothers, Dominic and Anthony Latore.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, 10:30 am at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Hurch in Struthers with Fr. Bernard Bonnot and Fr. Timothy O'Neill officiating. Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery.
Friends will be received Tuesday from 5-8 pm at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland where a prayer service will be held Wednesday at 9:45 am.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the wonderful care that was given to Jennie by her devoted caregiver Cheri Douglas of 7 years, as well as Christi Goodworth, Selena Pegeues, and Hospice of the Valley.
